The Crafton Historical Society occupies a room in the Crafton Public Library at 140 Bradford Avenue, where the public is invited to view acquisitions, conduct research and enjoy displays of Crafton memorabilia. A computerized catalog makes it easy to search for the information you need.

The society’s archives include:

  • Photos of Crafton’s buildings, streets and people
  • Maps
  • Bound volumes of old newspapers
  • Birth records
  • Property deeds
  • Records of the Crafton Women’s Civic Club
  • Crafton High School yearbooks (Gingkos)
  • News clippings of current history
  • Oral history transcripts
  • Books, paintings, posters
  • Tapes of self-guided walking tours
  • Historical society scrapbooks and newsletters

If you are restoring your home, you can find sources for hard to find materials, helpful articles on restoration techniques and great ideas for adding the right touches to make your project authentic in our collection of The Old House Journal.

Hours of operation

The Crafton Historical Society room is open by appointment only by calling 412-922-6884.  We are in need of volunteers to staff the room to make our resources open to the public.  Availability is flexible, but the staffed hours should occur regularly at least once a week (and during Crafton Library hours).  Interested volunteers should expect a typical office environment and duties including filing, answering phone, taking messages, and retrieving mail.  Please send an email to CraftonHS@hotmail.com if you are interested

Donations

The society accepts donated materials related to Crafton’s history, such as photos, books, maps, pictures, letters, diaries and property histories. If you have old photos that you are willing to share, we can photograph and return them to you immediately. Please call us at 412-922-6884 to arrange a pickup or a photo session.

For sale

Miniature replicas of several significant Crafton buildings, The Story of Crafton, and Crafton Historical Society tee shirts are available for sale in our room. Check prices or order online at our CHS Store.

Share your house history

We receive many inquiries from former and present Crafton residents looking for information about the house they just purchased or the one they lived in when they were growing up in Crafton. We are compiling a House History file with basic information about Crafton’s homes. If you would like to add your house history to the file, fill out and return My House History. (under contruction)

If you would like help researching your house history, please call Carol Peterson at 412-687-0342.
